Our journey began in the year 2000 with the establishment of the Child to Child Development Center. At that time, there were only two teachers—including myself—but God had already prepared the way. Through the leadership of Mission Ministries Philippines under Teacher Chonabelle Domingo and the support of Servants Philippines through Dr. Jo Ward, this ministry became a reality.
Starting a ministry for children was never easy. We had no budget to build a learning center or school. Yet, God faithfully provided, using many people as His instruments to supply what we lacked.
From the beginning, we faced numerous challenges and hardships. Despite these difficulties, we never gave up because we believed that the Lord, who called us to this ministry, would never abandon us. We knew that this work was not for ourselves but for His glory.
We started with only thirty children whose parents entrusted them to our care. The knowledge and skills we shared came from a free three-day Early Childhood Education training provided by Mission Ministries Philippines as part of our partnership. One of our greatest challenges was introducing a different approach to education—one that was unfamiliar to the families in our community. We worked tirelessly to help parents understand the value of developmentally appropriate, Christ-centered education. Although we encountered criticism and discouraging comments, we remained steadfast because we knew God had called us to this work.
There were seasons when unexpected trials tested our commitment. At times, I wondered whether we could continue. Yet, instead of becoming reasons to quit, those challenges strengthened my resolve to keep the ministry alive for the children in our community.
Later, when the Department of Education required all schools to become legally registered, God once again provided faithful people who helped us meet every requirement. During this process, our school was officially renamed Simple Child. Looking back, if the decision had depended solely on my own strength, I might have closed the school during those difficult years. But God continually renewed my strength and always made a way for the ministry to move forward.
For the past twenty-six years, we have witnessed God’s unwavering faithfulness. Through every struggle and every victory, He has remained with us. Today, we rejoice as we see the fruit of His work. Many of the children who once sat in our classrooms have grown into mature followers of Christ. Some are now serving in their churches, teaching God’s Word, and faithfully ministering to others. Seeing their lives transformed reminds us that every sacrifice has been worthwhile.
Our mission remains the same: to disciple and educate children, helping them know Christ and develop the gifts God has entrusted to them. This is the calling He has given us, and by His grace, we will continue to fulfill it. The words of Jesus in Mark 10:13–16 continue to guide and inspire our ministry:
“Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And He took the children in His arms, placed His hands on them, and blessed them.
Simple Child is not our ministry—it is God’s ministry. It exists so that every child who enters our doors may experience His love, care, and guidance. Our prayer is that each child will grow up knowing they are deeply loved, treasured, and created with a purpose by God, and that they, too, will one day become faithful servants who will make Christ known to the next generation.
